Most Commonly Asked Questions
How does orthodontic treatment as an adult differ from treatment at a younger age?
At our practice, we understand that dental needs evolve throughout life. For young patients with healthy gums and all their permanent teeth, we offer interventions to address jaw discrepancies during their growth stage. In adults, treatment plans are tailored to individual goals and often involve collaboration among specialists. Our focus extends beyond just straightening teeth; we address specific concerns like tilted molars or missing teeth. Before initiating treatment, we meticulously assess gum health, considering factors like aging or systemic diseases. For more complex cases, such as severe jaw discrepancies, we may recommend a combined approach with orthognathic surgery. Additionally, we prioritize a thorough evaluation of sleep and TMJ health before embarking on orthodontic treatment, providing a holistic diagnostic approach for our patients.
Is it too late for me to straighten my teeth?
Everybody deserves a smile that feels right to them, and it’s never too late to consider straighter teeth. With today’s innovative straightening techniques, you may be surprised at what we can do for your smile. Pre-adjusted, self-ligating, and porcelain brackets are just some of the options our experienced specialists have to choose from. Some patients may need to require surgical intervention to establish an ideal bite after treatment.
What types of appliances are available for adult patients besides traditional metal braces? Do adults need to wear metal braces?
Metal braces have been used to straighten teeth for many years, but other options are available. Invisible aligners can move teeth into alignment without brackets, wires, and bands. We’ve earned Invisalign’s Diamond II designation as one of the region’s top providers, and we’d love to discuss your options.
If I need traditional braces, are there invisible options?
Yes! If your case requires mechanical movements beyond Invisalign aligners, we may consider porcelain brackets that look more natural than all-metal. In other cases, we can use lingual braces placed on the inside of your teeth, out of sight!
How long will it take to straighten my teeth?
Duration of treatment depends on the case complexity and the planned goals. During the consultation, the doctor communicates the anticipated treatment duration. The estimated time of treatment is usually accurate but it also depends on the doctor’s experience and patient compliance. This includes appointment attendance, diet restriction, oral hygiene, elastic wear and others to name a few.
What if I need dental treatment during orthodontics?
We can complete most dental procedures during orthodontics, and we recommend regular cleanings and checkups throughout your care. At Kharsa Clinics, you enjoy all the services you may need under one roof. All dental care should be performed before starting orthodontic services. If treatment is needed after starting , care can be coordinated between the orthodontist and dentist. But most problems can be avoided by keeping regular checkups and cleanings with your general dentist. At Kharsa Clinics, all your oral health needs are covered in one place.
Is adult orthodontic treatment uncomfortable?
In the beginning there may be some slight discomfort. You can expect: 1- Discomfort from the orthodontic components which are foreign bodies in your mouth. 2- Pain caused by initial tooth movement, which should be mild depending on your pain threshold.
How much does it cost?
We create customized plans for every patient, including the type of appliances used and treatment goals. The cost of your care reflects these factors along with the experience and training of our orthodontists. We customize payment plans, and many patients appreciate our installment plan option for payment throughout treatment. Your treatment cost also includes two years of complementary follow-up after you’ve finished treatment. This care is provided every 4-6 months to assure stability of your teeth and protect your smile for a lifetime.
Do braces change the structure of my face?
Adult orthodontics primarily involves the movement of teeth without changes to the facial bone structure. But teeth placed in the proper position create a healthy occlusion, beautiful smile, and enhanced facial balance.
Are appliances and materials used in your practice approved by international health authorities?
Material and appliances used in our practice are certified by the FDA, European health authority, and the Saudi FDA (SFDA). All materials are for one-time use and sterilized with the highest standards.
What if I need orthognathic (jaw) surgery?
Sometimes the upper and lower jaws don’t fit together correctly, and the lack of proportion changes the face's overall appearance. This misalignment may cause chewing, breathing, or speaking difficulties, too. Our experienced specialists can often guide growth and development with orthodontics. But some patients may benefit from jaw surgery, and we partner with skilled surgeons in our trusted network.
